Jacques Dutronc - "Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi"
Okay, so it's Saturday now but this one still classifies as a Friday Find - I just didn't have the energy to blog last night. First week at a new job (loving it, by the way), and I had to round it off with some music, wine and methodical stirring of risotto, thus no blogging.
So! Jacques Dutronc. "Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi" is a great garage track - think the Kinks, Yardbirds, The Who, but with a French bounce. And yet the lyrics are actually quite contemplative and topical.
The title line, translated as "And I, And I, And I", is sung as a throw-away: as he considers the millions of disadvantaged or persecuted people around the world. These thoughts quickly return to one's own domestic worries and comforts, however:
Three hundred million Soviets
And I and I and I
With my habits and my tics
In my little goose feather bed
I think of it and then I forget it
That's life, that's life
It seems much of Dutronc's music addresses sociopolitical topics and parodies themes like fame and his home-city of Paris. See "Il Est Cinq Heures, Paris S'éveille" (It's 5 o'clock, Paris wake up) and "Les Playboys" (The Playboys, complete with some cute little steps).
