Some Highlights for 2011 Part 2 (in no order)

5. New Navy - "Zimbabwe"
Like an old engine just started, the weather in New Zealand is still struggling to warm up but I started looking for summer tunes early this year (probably in June, realistically). I heard New Navy's Zimbabwe on JJJ's online stream and have had it on rotation quite a bit.

6. Kavinsky feat. Lovefoxxx - "Nightcall"
Another one from the Drive soundtrack. So good. This track was originally released in 2010 but definitely got a bit of a boost after it featured in the opening credits of this year's (soon to be?) cult hit.

7. Dodos - "No Color" (album)
Frantic, jerky and complex - the Dodos seem to beautifully balance a stripped back instrumentation and soaring vocals on this album with virtuosic performance, adventurous rhythms and unusual but engaging melodies.

8. Boy & Bear - "Moonfire" (album)
A trail-on from last year's success (see their With Emperor Antarctica EP - especially Mexican Mavis and Rabbit Song), the Sydney five-piece Boy & Bear released their debut album Moonfire this year. It starts strongly with Lordy May, a rich ode to life that seems to take equal inspiration from gospel and folk.

Another one to come.
